I live in Fort Worth, Texas, and am married with four grown kids and one great 6 year old grandson. I started modelling in the 60's when the Revell and Airfix 1/72 scale kits came along and there was suddenly an 'explosion' of decent plastic models. Until then we had to be satisfied with the crude Aurora, Strombecker, etc. aircraft kits. Although the early Revell, Hawk and Renwall armor and missile kits were pretty amazing and are even impressive today when you realize they were made 50 years ago in some cases.
I continued modeling my whole life until now, joined and re-joined IPMS a few times, still have the first issues of Scale Modeler and Fine Scale Modeler magazines, and a big reference library that I've managed to keep intact and add to over the years.
Currently I'm doing 'Braille Scale' armor simply because the kits have reached 1/35 scale detail and quality, are still pretty inexpensive, and can be built faster than their larger counterparts.
I REALLY am impressed with this ARMORAMA site because the coverage of our hobby is astonishingly up to date and detailed given the many specialized areas of interest modelers have developed.
See ya'll around campus,
Ed VanTassel

Ed, welcome aboard the big "A", as we like to call it.
It's great to have one with your years of experience with us. I am sure there are plenty of us here that would love to pick at your brains to share your knowledge.

Do you have pictures of your models that you would like to share with us? We would love to see some.

Hope to see you in the forums.

Ed -

Welcome to Armorama and I'm sure you'll soon find out soon what a fantastic group of people there is here to share experiences, ideas, techniques, and everything you can think of about this great hobby. Also great to see more of us "older" guys getting back into it. Lived in San Antonio for a few years back in my Air Force days. Also have a grandson who was "helping?" me put decals on my Jagdpanther this last weekend. I'll need to do some research to see if his placement was accurate but that part of the fun of the hobby. Hope to hear (and see?) more from you soon,

welcome to armorama! It's never too late to join. I hope you like it here. I liked Forth Worth. I had a good time last time I was there in '04. Hopefully I'll get to visit again in March '06.

Ed,

Welcome aboard! It's great here.

How long have you been in Ft. Worth? I lived there '77-80, and hung out with the local IPMS folks for a bit. Your name seems familiar.
