A long time ago there was an Australian WW2 series shown in England.
It was mainly about a couple of Australian soldiers fighting the Japanese mostly in jungle terrain.
I think one of the characters was called Erskin or something like that.
Anyone know what the series was called????

series? sounds really cool - the 1st thing that came to my mind was "Attack Force Z", but that was just 1 movie - not a series.

Vic.
Are you thinking of a BBC series call "A Town Like Alice"?
Starring, I think Bryan Brown. About Aussie soldiers in a Japanese POW camp along with civilian prisoners. In Malaya, I think.
It was shown here in the States on our Public Broadcasting System.
There was also another BBC series called "Danger UXB" About British bomb disposal crews during and right after WW2. I forget who starred in that one.

The only one I could think of was Rat Patrol and that wasn't even in the Pacific...it was North Africa.
I do remember Attack Force Z ,Mel Gibson was also in that one wasn't he?
The only other Aussie focused war movies I can think of ( at the moment) is "Odd Angry Shot" ( I know an extra in it who is historian and an ex-Para) and AnZacs.
Wow I'm really off the topic here...sorry
Steve

Hi all,
Nah, it wasn't any of those. certainly not the Sulavans :-) Terrible program.
This series was about 35 years ago.
just realised how old I am. It only seems like yesterday.
There was combat in it more or less every week.
Where's all the Ausie members hiding? One of them must remember :-)

I 'think' I can recall the show you mean.
The title sequence showed 'our heroes' tearing round (then-contemporary, the series dating from the Seventies I guess...) Sydney in a 'ute' (that's pick-up truck to you USA types) made from either a cut down Chevy or a Ford V8.
The 'Special Commando' unit seemed to consist of only two active service personnel, but IIRC there was also an older CO who seemed a bit Blimp-ish but this outer bluster concealed a man of steel.
true to form, there was also a female secretary who provided the usual 'love' interest.
The combat sequences stand out for all the wrong reasons, like Sterling SMGs (with Sten magazines) employed in the Pacific in 1944 - whatever happened to the Owen gun?
IIRC the series was called 'The Raiders' and was very very loosely based on the antics of Z Force and associated units - so loosely as to be falling apart...

Hi Acav,
Thats it. I didn't recognise the title but I checked out your link.and the actors etc.
I used to like that program when I was young but I bet if I saw it now I may think differently.
Like so many old series you remember them as being great until you see them again and see how dated and poor they really were :-)
