Hi, well rarely do I write about myself, but I've never been shy. So anyway ... I've been out of modelling for about 25 years with the exception of "N" scale train layouts which I did for awhile. I'm glad to be back in it and look forward to learning more as I read more and more of this site.
I was a Jy-rine (Marine) that serverd in a Recon Sniper Unit unit in Lebanon detached to the 8th Marines in the early 80's I was there from 82-85 After I did that tour(s) I got a "real job" and travelled the world fixing and installing CNC machines until the compnay moved back to Japan in 2001, since then I deal in tools as a liason (sp.) for the tool companies to the big box stores travelling around Western KY, TN and Southern IL and sometimes the MO boot.
Are you on the edge of you seat yet?
WAIT THERE'S MORE ....
I live in Very Far Western Kentucky with my wife and child and assorted animals we are out in the boondocks. Since I'm not going to the Opera or other cultural events (as we have none) I have time for hobbies. Currently I have a huge stack of models (about 50) waiting to get built. I just started build them this summer and not happy with them I started surfing for information and ideas and lo and behold here I am at the best site I've found for information. There are plenty of really good sites out there don't get me wrong! This one just seems to have the most. So 3 models later I enlisted in the site.
Oh here is a TIP for you ... if you have fat fingers like mine done sign up on a laptop or you will end up with extra letters in your CALLSIGN mine was going to be SSgt1Shot but no I got an extra "T" at no addition charge, what a bargin.
What else? I know your glued now ...
I like to cook as I like to eat and smoking ham and BBQ are a way of life here, I'm talking southern BBQ not that other stuff.
Anything else you want to know just ask I know a little about everything and a lot about nothing. :-)

Thanks fella's and yes dave's are fun people at least the ones I know. Already signed up for one campaign for the newbies (i.e boots, pollywogs, greenhorns etc etc.) Will post some photos when I have some I want some one to se LOL ... 2 of the models are no longer with us, let just say their MIA. I kept the Duce and a halh model and I'm trying to figure out what to build for for the campaign.
I have an excellant idea (ideer) for a campaign but I'll wait until I have more stripes before tossing out my two bits.

Thanks again

Will do, already joined the Apprentice Guild Exercises: # 2 one. I didn't plan on having such a stock pile of models but I scored a few box lots of Tamiya on eBay at a good price and I stock up when Hobby Lobby has there 1/2 prices sales on plastic models via there internet coupon. Sad thing is i just ordered a bunch of stuff from Greatmodels during their Turkey Day sales.

I have experience with CNC machines but I don't have one in the garage I installed the really big one, but I'd love to have a small turning center to crank out barrels. I don't even know of a place around these part that has anything fancier than a Bridgeport. You say CNC and they think you're talking about a TV channel. :-)

What's up Doc?
One of my best friends was a Navy Corpsman in Nam ... I told him Marines as a Branch have little respect for any other Branch (Not that I think that way), but they do respect Corpsman. Hat's (Cover's) off to you. (Even if you are a squid! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) )

Corpsman UP!

OOORAH, GYRENE!!

So you were with 8th Marines in Leb? I joined 1/8 in '87, still had some Beirut vets in the Battalion when I got there. In fact, we still had the boom box that was in the Armory when the HQ section was bombed. Maybe we got some buddies in common?

As I was telling Dave (Grumpyoldman- and a finer fellow you're not likely to meet) the other day- yeah, the Marines are a department of the Navy- THE MEN'S DEPARTMENT! :-) But seriously Grumpy et al, we appreciate all the rides

As you can tell, Maj Rob is an alright guy (for Army), just tell him that Jarheads think a 50 kit stash is big 'cause we don't have our own Personal Motorpool to haul our stash about! :-) :-) Actually, you'll find that Sabot is an invaluable resource to the site, his Motorpool gallery is awesome & enormous, and he used to do an open house at his unit where Big A members were treated to a ride on an M1! If you can hook up with him for a visit to the Patton museum when he PCS's to Knox, I'm sure you'll find him a font of Knowledge...

Welcome to the site, thanks for enlisting, & don't feel shy about proposing a campaign! Slicksleeves are not frowned upon here, and all Ideas are treated with the same respect. See ya round the site!

Let's try this again, I lost 3 post due to some server error or something.

Anywho ...

Rah-ooh ...

The Men's Department .... now that is funny.

I did time with all of the 8th Regt I was attached to HQ BLT out at Gieger I knew a number of fellow that lost their lives in the attack and I lost a number of good friends including a Corpsman. I was lucky.

The idea I had for a Campaign would tie directly into Lebanon as the theme, to model equipment that was there from the units that was there. Not sure when I would start or ead it if there was enough interest, but one date would be Oct 23rd. the day of the bombing.
For a prize I have a number of old relic from Lebanon, nothing great just things I had while I was there.

Yes I have respect for all member of the service .... even the ones in the Army :-) like Rob. When he gets to Ft Knox I'll have to hook up with him and tour the tanks. After I left the Corps I did a tour in the KYANG and did Tank training at Knox. The closest Recon Unit was in Mobil Alabama ... wasn't about to make that drive every month. So I thought it would be a nice change to ride instead of walk.

Well I hear the faint sound of work calling me .... man that sucks.

Thanks to all that have welcomed me to the group.

Later Fellas

Right there at the Milburn Forest along Hadrains (sp) wall on the northern side of it. Guess the Romans got to our people and side ... "That's it we're stopping here and building a wall!"
I know my people came to this country long ago, about 1750 give or take a year.I have a little of the history traced but I loose the trail when I get back to jolly ol England.
