There's a great book about the Colditz castle/prison... But just don't ask me the title or the author...

Arthur,
How funny. Ironically I was just watching Braveheart on DVD.

It was a great movie. My only complaint was that some of the battle scenes went on for too long.

Do you all like Braveheart for its historical accuracy, or for it's cinematography achievements. I am only asking because I took a couple courses on English history, and being a history major this is, of course, an interesting topic for me. put bold text here

Awall,
Interesting. I would prefer a period movie that had historical accuracy. That is if the film industry were capable of doing such a thing on anything other than a documentary.

But Braveheart did have excellent cinematography and dialogue. There was this whole suspension of disbelief thing for us to take 50 year old Mel Gibson as 20-30 year old William Wallace. I am such a nitpicker on movies.

I liked (loved) Gladiator more.

I agree with Jim - I'd prefer historical accuracy over SFX and stuff. That's why I don't go rushing out to see a lot of movies. If I want fantasy - I go all the way to Star Trek or Star Wars. However, I can't go for psuedo-reality like Air Force One or Wargames. It gags me...

Good, I was hoping I wasn't the only one that found flaws in the historical accuracis of the movie.

Sorry but if you are going to make a film make it accurate, well near as damn it.

Bravehart the battle of Stirling, where was the bridge.
U571?
The Burma one with Errol Flynn. nooooo

Don't want to be a killjoy but Hollywood seems to rewriting history for its own use.

Mind you Bravehart was a top film.

Send em homeward to thing again!

OH !....... We did.

The red rose will always be.

With a few exceptions, when you go to the cinema, you should take the movie
for what it is : a good fun moment...
Of course if you see AirBat 21 (I think that's the name...) where the heroe ejects from
an EB66 over Vietnam... when the plane was well known for having no ejection seat
(its little name was : all three dead)... you might just be a tad bit disapointed...

I like Galdiator, the openning scene totally blown me away the first time I watched it, you got artilery (the catapults), infantry, and armor (the cavalry), and hey, you also got a kicking ass wolf thing. :-)
I also like "The Light Horseman" (did I get the name right, it's about Australian light horse in WW I, and the scene they charged the Turkey line, and the Turks need to re-range their rifles is pretty intense)
Rules of Engagement
Braveheart
Patriots
Black Hawk Down
SPR
Band of Brothers
Memphis Belle (Extremely good soundtrack)

and I also like Topgun and Pearl Harbour (whisppering...)

And I also like to add for those of you enjoy good war movie, a DTS/5.1 DVD and good 5.1 sound system is a must. They will blow you away.... #:-) #:-) (I can't hear too well now, because that I crank up the volumn too high all the times....just wanna feel the vibration on the floor while a Tiger tank passes by) #:-) #:-)

I am somewhere in the middle of the accuracy vs. entertainment debate. I like a good movie even if it is inaccurate, but I do tend to nitpick things that I found wrong as well. The most recent movie that drove me a bit crazy was "The Sum of all Fears". I read the book and loved it, but I was a little disappointed with the changes that Hollywood made to the story (Neo-Nazis instead of Arabs - what a crock of s**t).

Favs:

Saving Private Ryan
The Matrix
Star Wars Trilogy
Black Hawk Down
Stalingrad
Planes, Trains, & Automobiles
