cracked canopy

It was bound to happen ... masking a canopy for the Revell 1 /32 Mustang P 51-D and cracked it!! Is there a fix?? Thanks!

From what I read, you should try to order a Tamiya canopy from their customer service. They will fit with very little work and the transparency is much better. They are only about $3.50 for the sprue you need. You can check the posts at largescaleplanes.com for what you need exactly.

Or you can vac form a new one using the old one as a form.

Not only have people been getting cracked ones (due to RoG's packaging preferences) but they apparently have a strong distortion in them which obscures a good view of the innards.

My theory is perhaps the surfaces of the mold halves did not quite align, as I imagine the Mustang canopy is a complex curve to CAD in the first place. With a little extra room between certain spots, the thicker plastic distorts the clarity.

Did Revell's earlier Mustang kits suffer this issue, and if not would any of them work with this kit? As perhaps an alternative to buying a Tamiya Mustang sprue.
