I really thought that it was " to, to Hollywood ".
The action was good, but I thought the battle on Saipan could have been
better researched for the movie.
It seemed as though Nicholas Cage ( though I do think he's a fantastic actor ),
never ran out of ammo. Also, the Marines talking out loud to each other
while on patrol through enemy territory ( that just didn't happen ! ).
I do think it gave a fair point of what the Navajo codetalkers
did for the war and saving soldier's lives.
All's I can say is, go see it for yourelf, and see what you think.
.......In my opinion "Saving Private Ryan" still holds the crown, with
Band of Brother's right behind it !
I even think that, if had Steven Spielberg directed Windtalkers, it
probably would have been a lot better.
- Also, rumor has it that Spielberg is suppose to make a movie about
Iwo Jima. Just with him at the helm, it most likely will finally bring a good
depiction of historical events in the Pacific Theater during W.W.II

I think I will go see it tomorrow maybe if I have time. Where is Black Hawk Down on your list? Is it just a list of favorite WWII movies?
I hope Speilberg's Iwo Jima movie isn't like old movie of The Sands of Iwo Jima, mainly just a love story. I think he will do well, and I can't wait to see that.

Scott - I'm not sure when it is due out. I don't even know
if production has started. When I here more, I will post a message
on it.

Mark - Blackhawk Down, in my opinion definitely ranks with SPR.
The movie was well researched & portrayed by the actor's.
It depicted very accurate military events of that mission.
That's what I like to see in a movie.

I went and seen Windtalkers yesterday,
I really liked it, hollywood or not, I liked the humor that the Natives portrayed. I guarantee we will see a Native Code Talker here soon in miniature, and probably some more pacific guys

Heh. Sounds familiar. I haven´t seen the movie yet, but being a John Woo flick, the mag capacity is always an issue...
Mostly in his earlier Hong Kong productions (Killer, Hard Boiled) it happens that the hero first shoots around 30+ shots with his .357 revolver without reloading, then ends up in a Mexican standoff with a bad guy and suddenly they´re BOTH out of ammo! Click! Click!
However, I think Mr Woo knows the capacity of his hardware, he just uses his creative freedom to ignore the fact when he feels it suits his purposes! This kind of overall goofiness is what I like in his films anyway...

Now Now Ralph :-) He changed mags a lot, now, how ,manytimes he SHOT BEFORE he changed is a good question As Im sure the actors use blank rounds in their weapons they would have to shoot out, although at the final edieting I am sure they think something like this "well he changed the clip, but it was a bad taking, so instead of taking a new shot of that section with reloading they just did it with the bullets he had left" This isnt exactly what I think, but its close and will give you the line of thought Im following :-)

Okay, Just got back from seeing the movie, And.....It was ok, Actually He did run out of ammo on a couple of occassions, So I have to disagree on that part, Yeah I know, Maybe not as often as the other guys, But he did, I have not seen B.O.B. And not alot of John Woo's stuff, Though did'nt he also do The Replacement Killers?? That one I DID see!! ANYWAY.. I digress, The opening scence really got my attention. WOW. But I will agree that perhaps the battle on Saipan, Probably could have used a little more research, Other wise It was a pretty good show. So I would give it at least an 8. Not being a history EXPERT Quote, Unquote, I cant really argue the finer points ,Just to say it seem that they did focus a LITTLE TOO MUCH, on Nicholas Cages character, When the story was supposed to have been about the NAVAHO Soldiers. Anyway point made. Over all a good War Movie. And it definitely kept your attention. So not too bad. I still like We Were Soldiers Once... Better, But will Give J.W an A for effort. And thats all from Dagger-1's Corner, Poet, Critic.... Model Builder.LOL

I cannot agree with Ralph more on this issue. The first time I realized that J.W is directing the film, I said "Oh, NO!" I feel so glad that I went cheap on this one to get the pirated DVD at home and watch it, "The point your gun at each other but not shooting" scene is really really become very very old. I gave it a 5, 2 for the tanks and millitary equipment in the film, 2 for the sound effect, and 1 for being a WW II film...

I saw the film yesterday as part of my Fater's Day gift. I thought it was well done. The critics do not like the film. However, I saw the normal interaction that takes places once the bullets fly at your head. I thought they brought that off quite well. I also thought the scenes of placing fire on advancing infantry with a .45 Thompson and M-1 were accurate. There were some parts that stretch the imagination (getting a tank with a grenade--Nah.) It was no Academy Award winner, but it was worth the price of admission.

This is in reply to not running out of bullets. If you ever saw the movie Pork Chop hill with Gregory Peck this movie is from late 50.s.if you watch him all through the movie he never runs out of ammo with his M-1,because he doesnt even take one shot during the entire film.In some well made films even some things will all ways be ovious, like John wayne, breaking that large mattel M-16 in the movie The Green Berets.

Well, the John Wayne movie is a true tragedy. It has so many errors as to verge on the comic. Want to start an interesting thread, chose that one!
