Heres a question, though a little off topic, that I thought of while looking at a post on Accurate WWII movies by Tanker25.

??WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE WORLD WAR TWO MOVIE/MOVIES??

Movies are also a great source of inspiration for diorams, figures, ect. Any replies would be great. :-)

Hey Katyusha,
As far as technicle accuracy, BOB gets my vote as well. Though there were many valiant efforts prior to it. When you have such a great director, and a budget like that, it makes all the difference in the world.

I think the one your thinking of is The Longest Day. Thats a good movie.

I also like Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers and a Bridge Too Far. As for non WWII movies its all about Black Hawk Down for me.

666 (?) Squadron... the one with the Mosquitos going after the hard water plant in Norway. Combat scenes kind of hokey (but not bad) but, I just love that Mossie.

The Dambusters. (eg.) Quite good/accurate IMHO altho it's been awhile since I've seen it.

Most of the armor related movies are hard to take with all that post war equipment being used.

Platoon. Good depiction of the times but that damn inaccurate flash supressor on the M16 Shorty just bugs me.

I like war movies that are mostly accurate in terms of depicting the events and the times, and also have a good story without the blatant patriotic biases.

In terms of Good stories and visuals: "SPR and BOB"

But in terms of accuracy and showing the reality of war : "Das Boot" and the rarely ever mentioned "The Thin Red Line"

Hey kkeefe, the movie's title is 633 Squadron. I'm a huge fan of that movie and the series of books it's based on. That film single-handed launched my modelling obsession with the Mossie. My other favorites are BOB, A Bridge Too Far, The Longest Day, SPR, Zulu, Patton, Blackhawk Down, Cross of Iron, and Waterloo (the one with Christopher Plummer as Wellington).

Band of Brothers
Hamburger Hill
Black Hawk Down
Saving Private Ryan
The Big Red One
and for a movie way before WWII time
Glory
Memphis Belle (Although the Flight Depicted was actually their third I think and not their 25th)
and How about....
We Were Soldiers

My two favorites are Band of Brothers, and its younger brother, Battleground. I will stay up very late to watch both.

Band of Brothers, A Bridge Too Far, and Das Boot are my most favorite.
I also really like Battle of Britain and Dark Blue World.
Actually, I like most WWII movies, provided they are at least somewhat accurate, and have been collecting them for a while, just like unbuilt kits. Hopefully some day I will have had a chance to watch them all (including A Midnight Clear, Stalingrad, and When Trumpets Fade). Just like I will get the time to build my unbuilt stash of kits...

Cheers
Dave

...darn glad somebody mentioned 'Zulu!'........just loved that film. There was also a film made of the battle that preceded the Zulu attack at Rouke's Drift, it was called 'Zulu Dawn', and starred a real favourite of mine, Burt Lancaster. The movie was O.K., fairly accurate....entertaining nontheless!

Tread.

Gotta love those men of the 24th Foot!!.....especially 'Hooky'

Hmm, there are so many.
Probably my all time favorite would be "The Great Escape"
But "Bridge at Remagen" ,"BOB" , "Green Berets" and Bridge On the River Kwai" are high
ranking ones.

And last but not least: one that hasn't been mentioned. "The Light Horseman" with Mel Gibson in his early days. Thats a good one.

Lot of good ones

the old ones

Longest Day
Great Escape
Bridge to Far
Tora Tora Tora
Battle of the Bulge (I know this one stinks and is inaccurate, but I loved it as a kid, so it has nostalgic value)...
The Enemy Below (That Star Trek episode against the Romulan cloaking ship stole from this movie!)
Kelly's Heroes
Patton
I'm sure there's more.. that I've just forgotten about...

New

Private Ryan
Band of Brothers
Stalingrad
DASBoot
Enemy at the Gates
Thin Red Line
Winter War
Hart's War

Non World War two
Glory
Apocolypse Now
Platoon
Gettysburg
We were Soldiers

Horrible Movies

Pearl Harbor (could've been good with all that money spent on special effects)
Behind Enemy Lines (give me a break.. too much hollywood.. ran like an after First Blood Rambo film)
Windtalkers (was disappointed after seeing the ads)
