For dust you can do a thin wash of a light color, or use ground pastels or pigments, or both. Several companies offer pre-made washes and pigment sets for dust in different colors, including Vallejo, True Earth and Mig Jiminez's products. I purchase good artist pastels and grind them up, mixing my own colors. I also use clay from the garden-I have a nice reddish color that I carefully sifted and ground that works great.

For mud, you can use the pigments or pastels, mixed with acrylic gel medium, plaster mixed with craft paint, pre-tinted grout or actual mud. If you use a glossy base (or future) you will get a wet mud. If you use a flat base you get dried mud. You can also use textured paints and apply an earthy wash over that.

You can use the search bar at the top of the page or google "Mud weathering effects" or "weathering models" and you should get a number of ideas. Do the same thing for posting photos, using the search bar above. There are a couple of good posts with instructions.

Hi Hunter,

Welcome to Kitmaker Network!

I think you will find this a friendly and helpful site. Feel free to PM me with questions.

Russ presented some great time tested weathering techniques. He refers to weather features; here is the site weathering repository with several features on weathering: https://archive.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=features&file=index&secid=19

Here are weathering techniques that I like: https://archive.kitmaker.net/features/782

Hunter,

about posting photos. You will go into your gallery (see the banner above this page - look at the bottom row 2nd from the right).

Upper R. hand corner is "Upload photos". It will take you to another page that allows you to upload from your computer. Then you'll confirm your selections, then they will be in your gallery.

To add those photos into a forum post, right clik the image, select 'copy link location', the in your post, look down at (or type) "L. bracket, "i" "m" "g" R. bracket". Put the url between that and the same but with a "/" between L. bracket and 'img'. Then it should display.

Upper R. of the forum posts is "Follow topic". I've not used it but I think if you klik it, new posts are sent to the email you registered with.
