I've been logging on here for about a week now and find this to be a wonderful community. I've been in and out of model-building recently. Built my first model (a 1/72 scale DUKW back in the early 70s) then got into almost exclusively WW2 aircraft from about 79 to 84, with an occasional German armored vehicle. Went in the army and didn't have time to do much building. Got out of the army and started a family....still no time. Now, I'm getting back in; kids are raised, etc.

Currently working on an M5A1 tank which I'm struggling to get built in time for this weekend's IPMS model contest in Phoenix. If I don't finish, I'll take another recent build to at least get my feet wet in my first big competition.

This is a terrific site with people who are obviously interested in helping each other and I hope to be able to contribute as well. Best wishes and hello to you all.

Welcome Smitty! Words of advice on the old Tamiya Stuart, I think the sponsons need to be blanked off (not too sure on the M5A1). This is the area of the hull that is above the top run of the tracks. Basically, if you can look through the turret opening and see the top of the tracks, the kit requires a piece of sheet styrene here. Also the tracks on this kit have the end connectors at the end of each block instead of straddling two adjacent blocks. Only way to fix this is to replace the tracks with an aftermarket set. But if you just enter the kit in the out-of-box category and use good basic building skills, you should do all right.

Welcome Smitty! I just back into the hobby about a yeat ago and time is the hardest thing for me to get as my kid is only two!

My thanks to all who responded. I didn't get the M5A1 done in time for the IPMS contest last Saturday; I took an M20 armored car, a Tiger I and a Dodge ambulance truck but didn't win anything. I have a lot to learn but the experience was altogether positive.

I'll attempt to post a picture of the armored car here.
