First off, may I say this is a wonderful community!

I have recently rekindled my passion for plastic after a long break (12 years) after getting to drive an M-113 APC (what a BLAST). Currently on my workbench is a Tamiya's M1A1, Matilda, and LTPV7A1 (garage sale gem). Waiting for paint is the Tamiya T-34-85 (several enhancements) and waiting for weathering is an Italeri Tiger I (another garage sale gem).

Speaking of weathering, I think I may have weatheringaphobia. My Tiger looks very nice in its factory fresh paint, but I don't yet think I have enough confidence in my ability to weather it (maybe I am just afraid of ruining it). The Italeri Tiger is not that great of a model so I think I'll just dive in and see what happens!

After I get weathering down, my build pile is HUGE! My wife gives me crap, but I always remind her of a saying I saw on a sign in a model shop in Wheeling, IL. "And how many pairs of shoes do YOU have?" And I have to fight the magnetic pull of the new Tamiya T-55 that sits atop the pile. I think it's been talking to me in my sleep. "Build me, put the other toys away!" Argh, too many models, not enough time!!

Enough of my rambling. Time to get back to the plastic!

when you get over 50 models in your "future build" pile and you're still buying and looking through catalogs and composing wish lists, that's where you're in trouble....now where is that squadron catalog it was here a minute ago....welcome to the club andif your wife is buying you kits.....?

Welcome to the site... the best color for all around weathering may be testors Raw Umber... make a thin wash and let it run into the cracks, crevices etc.... try it out on anther kit first till you get the hang of it!!!!!

Hello and welcome! It sounds like you have the right idea to try out new techniques on older/less attractive kits first before taking the plunge on a prized possession. Trial and error is the best way to find out what works for you. Have fun, and have at it!

Ola Ivanhoe

Great to see another modeler making the comeback in this beautifull hobby.
The weathering question was for me a problem to start with too but You have to start once and not be afraid of making errors. He who makes errors learns from his mistakes.
What you can do is test on an old tank you have still laying around somewhere. At least that is what I`m doing.

Welcome on this site and welcome back into modeling

Quoted Text

"And how many pairs of shoes do YOU have?"

I love that. Reminds me of a sign on a plumber's shop here that said, "We repair what your husband fixed." Anyway, welcome aboard. You will find that this site will get you building again. Great folks here with lots of ideas and experience.

Weathering: no armored vehicle looks good without it. Have a plan, go slowly, too little is preferable to too much, and don't drybrush. Wilkommen, Rob

Welcome welcome welcome

Shoe - purses --- love it.

Build pile!! Weathering jitters - ahh don't worry about it! You'll be fine! Just jump in and do it. Just remember that ever kit builds on the last and you'll learn something ever time.

The only rule here is - the only bad question is the one you dont ask!

You've found THE BEST SITE AROUND! Welcome

Thanks for the tip on the museum, generalzod! I just checked out their site and they have a very nice collection. It is a little over 3 hours west of here, but it looks worth the drive. Now to find something in the area to appease the wife!

Keenan, I think the coaching changes after the end of last season are for the better. Defense was the weak link last season and they dominated the Spring game.

Time will tell!

Oh my, I just thought of a heck of a scratchbuilding project. Memorial Stadium!
